Watermaker Membranes Storage Program

Safely Store Your Watermaker Membranes For 6+ Months

Why you should maintain reverse osmosis desalinator membranes

When a reverse osmosis watermaker, also known as a desalinator, is not used regularly, the membranes foul due to the decomposing mineral and biological residue left sitting inside. This is especially a risk during the winter months and other long periods of non-use. Pickling and storing the membranes will prevent them from fouling. Replacement membranes are typically twice the cost of either cleaning them once they’ve gone bad or storing them.

How to keep your watermaker membranes from becoming foul

While the best method to keep your desalinator clean is to use it daily, another method—besides periodically cleaning it—is to store the membranes in a pickling solution.

Cleaning membranes that have already fouled is often ineffective. Up to 90% of fouled membranes that are cleaned have already lost functionality and will not purify seawater as effectively. Prevention is the best approach.

The Hope Group offers reverse osmosis membrane element Pickling and Storage options that inhibit bacterial growth while maintaining the high flux and salt rejection of the R.O. Membrane Element.

How our Winter Storage program for watermaker membranes works

Our team will do an initial bench test to determine the current life of your R.O. Membrane element, flush, and pickle your membrane for the winter months. Before returning your R.O. Membrane Element our team will flush and bench test to determine the life left in the R.O. Membrane Element.**
